Autumn 2010 Training Programme at Leeds Tenants Federation

Thursday 14 October

6 pm – 8pm

TARA Clinic: Does your tenants and residents group need a transfusion, kick-start or major surgery? This session will diagnose and treat the symptoms. Confidentiality rules will apply.

Computers for Not Quite Beginners (six weeks)

A six week course for those with a little basic knowledge of computers who want to improve their skills.

Resolving Conflict: how to deal with difficult people and avoid disagreement and unpleasantness

Introduction to Residents Groups: confidence and motivation for those new in post or thinking about volunteering giving you the best practice from 140 affiliated groups around the city.

Super Secretary: efficient minute taking and communications to make sure your group gets things done

Training sessions at Leeds Tenants Federation are free for all residents who want to get more involved in their community.  These sessions are great fun and you meet and learn a lot from people active in residents groups.

All sessions are run at Leeds Tenants Federation, Westminster Buildings, Room O, 31 New York Street Leeds LS2 7DT, next to the main bus station and markets.

TRAFFORD HALL TRAINING OPPORTUNITY

We are pleased to be able to tell you that, following the very successful pilot course earlier in the year, Trafford Hall is working in partnership with the HCA and Engage Associates to deliver courses across the country on

EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES and CREATING COHESIVE COMMUNITIES

The courses are designed for decision makers, managers and frontline staff in public,voluntary and community organisations that engage with the community, such as local authorities, police, housing, planning, health, regeneration, community engagement.

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

As well as creating opportunities for our customers to take part in various training courses to asssit with the development of their community involvement skills we also provide information about how customers can take part in other voluneering activities taking place across the city. Below is a list of volunteering opportunities in August with Groundwork and Leeds Volunteering 2010.

GROUNDWORK

12.08.10: Bat walk to raise awareness of volunteering to support bat conservation in West Yorkshire (location to be confirmed). This event will be delivered by Groundwork volunteers and is open to the general public. 8:15pm – 10:00pm. 30 places available and booking is essential.

14.08.10: Heritage and wildlife walk along the Kirkstall Towpath. This event will be delivered by Groundwork volunteers and is open to the general public. If you would like to help with the walk and bring your species identification skills we are also looking for volunteer walk assistants to support us on the day. 10:30am - 1:00pm. 15 places available and booking is essential.

17.08.10: Nature day at Kirkstall Valley Nature Reserve; volunteer participants will be undertaking a variation of activities including pond surveys, creating habitat piles, scrub clearance, a butterfly survey, building bird boxes and tree identification. This event will be delivered by Groundwork volunteers and is suitable for participants 16 years and over. 11:00am - 3:30pm. 10 places available and booking is essential.

19.08.10: Community volunteering to undertake a range of environmental activities at John O’ Gaunts and Rothwell Country Park. 10:00am - 3:30pm. This event is open to the general public. There are 30 places available and booking is essential.
