We have a number of garage sites on the estates we manage. Waiting times vary from one site to the next according to the number of garages on the site and the number of people on the waiting list.
How do I apply for a garage or get added to the waiting list?
Simply complete the Garage Application Form available via the link on the right and hand it in to your local Housing Office.
If you want to find out if there are any garages currently available contact your local Area Housing Office on 0800 915 6660.
What can I use the garage for?
Garages can only be used to store a motor vehicle or motorcycle and not used for general storage, repairing vehicles or running a business.
How much will I be charged?
Rents are currently £5.55 per week for tenants and £6.52 for applicants who are not council tenants. Some insurance companies will offer reduced car insurance if your car is garaged*.
How are empty garages allocated?
Garages are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis with the following preferences:
- Council tenants are considered before non-tenants;
- Council tenants with rents arrears on their property account will not be considered until they have paid these arrears in full;
- Preference will be given to tenants who have a mobility vehicle;
- Garages that are next to High Rise Flats are allocated to tenants living in these flats in the first instance;
- Only one garage is allocated per applicant unless there are no other applicants on the waiting list for that site.
* If you are more than 4 weeks in arrears with your garage rent notice to terminate your garage tenancy can be served on you. If you fail to clear any arrears after this notice is served the locks will be changed and the tenancy ended. You will also be recharged with the cost of changing the locks and removal of any items left in the garage.
