Arrears for a Former Tenancy

Have you had a Council Tenancy in the past? Did you leave owing rent?

If so, you need to pay those arrears. If you don't pay them you will have a Former Tenancy Debt registered against you.

Having a Former Tenancy Debt registered against you can:

  • Affect any application you make for re-housing;
  • Be detailed in any reference for a mortgage application or for a prospective landlord;
  • Cause us to take legal action against you such as a County Court Judgement.

If you do not make payment to us we will ask External Debt Agencies to collect the debt for us. They will visit you at home.

If you left without giving us a forwarding address we will use tracing facilities to find out where you are living now. We will find you.

If you have an unpaid Former Tenancy Debt please contact us 0800 915 6660 to discuss payment options or e-mail us at avhleeds.debt.recovery@avhleeds.org.uk.
